RR&TC Racer: The “Well Done Rio” Edition #116

Hi Rutlanders

Please give a warm welcome to Lyndsey James, the latest of the recent crop of graduates of the Beginners sessions from earlier this year to have decided to join the club. Lyndsey has been joining the Wednesday evening sessions at Hambleton and Exton. Hope you enjoy your time with the club and your running career continues to bring you enjoyment.

RR&TC Racer: The “Have A Go” Edition #114

Hi Rutlanders

The Olympics may have started but seems a number of you guys were busy with your own inspirational challenges. We had the club mini-tri, Chris Jones running a marathon in Gloucester, Nigel Broadbent doing an Iron-run, Bryan Clary taking on another bonkers challenge plus the first of this month’s Club Championship updates 🙂

RR&TC Racer: The Pre-Olympic Edition #113

Hi Rutlanders

First off a very warm welcome to another bunch of new members (Fantastic news) in the form of Joanne Shore, Sarah Reeves, Sam Jeffries and Gary Kirk. I know Sam and Gary from the last set of Beginners sessions so it’s great that you have decided to join the club. Also want to congratulate both on getting parkrun PBs at last Saturdays parkrun at Rutland Water (aren’t you glad you finally got those new running shoes I recommended Gary!). I’m sure you will all have a great time with the club and look forward to seeing you out and about at the club sessions.

I’m not aware of any club mates in action this past week but there are some interesting club activities in the next 7 days for you to get involved with. The Olympics may be starting but the club also has it’s own special event with our club social mini-tri this coming weekend 🙂

RR&TC Racer: Edition #112

Hi Rutlanders

First off a very warm welcome to Ellie Lovett and Chris Foley who have both recently joined the club.

Last weekend’s Anniversary Games in London provided a great final athletics spectacle before the Rio Olympics. There were some brilliant performances not least from young Laura Muir who broke Kelly Holmes’ 1500m record with a stunning 3:57.49. Mo Farah also looked on top of his game with the fastest 5,000m of 2016 with a time of 12:59.29. Coupled with the other great performances, August is looking great for some inspirational sport … and let’s not forget Chris Froome’s amazing third Tour de France win!!!

The club has had its share of superstars in action last weekend too 🙂

RR&TC Racer: The “Eleventy First” Edition #111

Hi Rutlanders

Welcome to the Eleventy First edition of The Racer and so we are now officially the same age as Bilbo Baggins at the start of the Lord of the Rings. Absolutely nothing to do with running or triathlon but sometimes training for a target event is like going on a journey or quest with all the inherent challenges that we have to face along the way … and although there might not be a Master Ring to destroy, you do sometimes come away with a nice “precious” medal 😉

RR&TC Racer: The “Here Comes The Sun” Edition #109

Hi Rutlanders

After a promising start June proved to be a complete wash-out so I’m going to be brave and predict that Summer proper starts here 🙂 Just be careful when you are out racing or training and make sure you stay well hydrated and don’t forget the suntan lotion too … don’t want to see any lobsters at any club sessions 🙂

Last Sunday was certainly a scorcher and there were some scorching performances over the weekend especially at Holkham Hall in Norfolk for the inaugural running of the Half Outlaw and other supporting events …

RR&TC Racer: The Dynamic Duo Edition #108

Hi Rutlanders

No place for politics in The Racer but I must say last night’s dismal display by the so-called England football team makes me wonder if they thought that last week’s LEAVE vote was an instruction to them 😉

Anyway on a much much more positive note we do have some more wonderful results from some of you guys to celebrate 🙂

2016 Club Championship #6: Beacon Hill Solstice Run

Friday (17.June) was the latest round of the Club Championship at the Beacon Hill Solstice Race. Set in the beautiful grounds of the country park at Woodhouse Eaves near Loughborough, this is a tough 5 miler involving two stiff climbs up the hill (the second highest point in Leicestershire) and a fast 1 mile downhill to the finish.

Unfortunately due to the popularity of this race there was a low turnout from the club due to the race filling up early on the year before more members had chance to enter. In any case first to finish was the club’s sole male participant Martin Gordon-Kerr in 37th place overall in a time of 38:01. Next to finish was Helen Duncan (43:41) followed by Kate Howes (48:35) and Jo Smith (standing in for Tracey Poole) in a very creditable 55:57. Well done everyone 🙂

The final club results were:

Name Time
Martin Gordon-Kerr 38:01
Helen Duncan 43:41
Kate Howes 48:35
Jo Smith 55:57

Well done everyone 🙂

From the Club Championship standpoint after age-grading was applied, Jo Smith was awarded top marks and is now leading the Ladies championship table from Helen Duncan in second spot. Martin’s performance pushes him in to third place in the Men’s championship.

The next designated Championship races is the Whissendine 6ix in July to look forward to 🙂
