Hi Rutlanders

Last Sunday’s very windy conditions didn’t seem to stop a number of you getting fantastic results at some local races – and it’s the ladies in the club that are leading the way. Also in this week’s edition we have news on the club AGM and a shout out for your votes for Athlete of the Year.

2017 Club Championship #1: Brass Monkey 10k

What a fantastic club turnout for the first race of the season. 19 club mates toed the start line for last Sunday’s Brass Monkey 10k at Rockingham Motor Speedway at Corby. The conditions first thing that morning were very icy but I’m sure by the time the race got underway the weak winter sunshine had made the conditions not too bad … at least it wasn’t howling a wintry gale and lashing with rain as in past years 🙂

First home for the club was Sean McAuliffe in 41:43. Sean’s showing some great form recently at the parkruns so its great to see that its translating to excellent times at the longer distance. Not far behind Sean was Lara Kristiansen finishing 3rd lady overall in a time of 42:18 – Congratulations both.

Well done everyone. There were some great performances but I do want to mention Jenny Pearson who had a great running weekend, bagging a 10k PB at the Brass Monkey after having achieved a parkrun PB the day before – brilliant stuff 🙂

The rest of the results in age graded Club Championship order were:

2016-club-champions

Each year the club runs separate championship competitions for Male & Female members with the winners receiving a trophy engraved with their name, which they keep for the following 12 months. Each month between January and December, a local race is designated as a championship qualifying race.

Results are Age Graded and based upon these age graded results you are awarded points (1 point for the winner, 2 points for second etc). If you do not run a race you are automatically awarded 25 points! The runner in each championship with the least number of points at the end of the year is crowned Champion. You must enter at least 3 races to compete and your best 6 results count.

RR&TC Racer: The “Frosty” Edition #138

Hi Rutlanders

Temperatures have plummeted this last week with frosty and misty conditions in the mornings and evenings. I managed to do a 12 mile run home from Rutland Water last Sunday and ran into some newborn lambs in a couple of fields near Great Casterton … so Spring must be round the corner 🙂
